On the occasion of World Ozone Day, Albania’s National Ozone Unit (NOPIU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment (MOE) organised The Ozone Week: 16 – 22 September. A number of activities were took place during the week.
On 16 September 2014, students of Edith Durham high school in Tirana organised a special activity devoted to the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone. Dea Kozma, a honours student, read out the UN Secretary-General’s Message. School Director, Mrs. Majlinda Dervishaj and a representative of the National Ozone Unit talked with the students about the ozone hole, providing information and awareness messages on the importance of ozone layer protection. At the end of the activity, students released hundreds of balloons in the air chanting the Day’s message “Ozone layer protection: The mission goes on”. This event was reported on all main TV channels.
