10/06/2025Update on New Refrigerants Designations and Safety Classifications
06/08/2025On the occasion of World Refrigeration Day, the National Ozone Unit (NOU) of Albania, in cooperation with the RAC Association, organized a dedicated awareness-raising activity on 26 June 2025 at the iconic Pyramid building in Tirana. The event brought together professionals from the refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) sector, and lecturers from Universities and experts of this sector to highlight the importance of sustainable cooling solutions and promote alternatives that are climate- and ozone-friendly. This event was part of Albania’s broader efforts to promote awareness on environmentally responsible refrigeration technologies and contribute to global climate action.
Key Activities:
Visit to the Geothermal Heat Pump System at the Pyramid
Participants had the opportunity to visit and learn about the modern geothermal heating and cooling system installed at the Pyramid. The system serves as a successful example of energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable technology. The visit was guided by technical staff who explained the functioning of the heat pump and its contribution to energy efficiency.
Presentations and Expert Discussions
Following the visit, a presentation session was held inside the Pyramid. NOU coordinator provided an overview of current national efforts to phase down HFCs and promote natural refrigerants in line with the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. Mr. Ilir Palushaj, national consultant and refrigeration expert, delivered a technical presentation on the latest developments in alternative refrigerants and low-GWP technologies available in the Albanian market and across the region.
Networking Cocktail and Open Discussion
The activity concluded with a cocktail event, providing a space for participants to exchange experiences, ask questions, and discuss potential future cooperation in the field of sustainable cooling. This informal setting helped strengthen professional ties and encouraged continued dialogue on best practices and innovation in the RAC sector.
