Training of Technicians on Low-GWP Alternatives in the Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (RAC) Sector

On 9–10 January 2025, the National Ozone Unit Albania (NOU), in cooperation with Tirana College of Technology, organized a training session entitled “Implementation of Low-GWP Alternatives and Systems in the Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Sector.”
The training was attended by 37 male students from the College.
During the first part of the training, participants were introduced to key theoretical concepts, including the environmental impact of high-GWP refrigerants, the benefits and safe handling of low-GWP alternatives, the international regulatory framework under the Montreal Protocol and its Kigali Amendment, as well as the implementation of the new F-gas legislation in Albania, together with the associated challenges and future compliance and enforcement steps.
The second part of the training focused on practical applications, featuring hands-on demonstrations aimed at strengthening students’ technical skills in sustainable refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment and systems.
This training played an important role in building the capacities of future technicians to support Albania’s transition toward low-GWP refrigerants, contributing to climate protection and the effective implementation of national and international regulations.
