Stakeholder Meeting, integrating Unwanted and Used Controlled Substances into the Waste Management System in Albania

The National Ozone Unit organized a stakeholder meeting on 24 October 2025 to discuss the integration of unwanted and used controlled substances (ODS and HFCs) into Albania’s waste management system. The event brought together representatives from government institutions, importers, waste operators, universities, vocational, and the RAC servicing sector.

Participants engaged in numerous discussions on current recovery and recycling practices in Albania, emphasizing the need to strengthen the national system for collection and reclamation. The exchange of information on Recovery, Recycling, and Reclamation (RRR) practices in Spain, particularly the experience with reclamation centers, was found to be very interesting and relevant for Albania. In addition, the presentation of small reclamation machines that the Czech Republic is using, as well as their potential application in smaller countries, also attracted significant attention and interest among participants.

Overall, the meeting focused on Albania’s legal framework, EU practices, and the necessary steps to align national policies with international obligations. Participants emphasized the need for stronger institutional coordination, improved recovery and recycling practices, and the establishment of a system for the collection and destruction of unwanted substances.
