Consultation on National Inventory of Banks of Used or Unwanted Controlled Substances, aligning Albania with international obligations
10/06/2025On June 2, 2025, the Training Workshop for Environmental Inspectors and Other Enforcement Officers, titled ‘Strengthening Compliance with the Montreal Protocol and Kigali Amendment,’ brought together 23 participants from the National Environment Agency and regional directorates from across the country.
The workshop, organized by National Ozone Unit (NOU) and National Environment Agency (NEA), aimed to strengthen the capacities of environmental inspectors and other enforcement officers in implementing and monitoring Albania’s obligations under the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment. The event combined theoretical sessions with hands-on exercises and group work, making it both informative and highly engaging.
Highlights:
- The theoretical sessions covered the history and significance of the Montreal Protocol, the implications of the Kigali Amendment, and Albania’s national legal and regulatory framework concerning ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
- Participants received practical training on inspection techniques, identification of ODS/HFC-containing equipment, and procedures for handling potential non-compliance cases.
- One of the most appreciated parts of the workshop was the interactive group work and case studies session, where participants applied their knowledge to simulated real-life inspection scenarios.
- A dynamic warm-up session and active Q&A discussion contributed to the collaborative spirit of the event.
The training successfully combined knowledge sharing and practical application, reinforcing the role of inspectors in protecting the ozone layer and ensuring compliance with national and international commitments. The positive feedback from participants highlights the value of such capacity-building efforts.
