Training of technicians at the vocational training institution – “Kigali Amendment and Alternatives to HCFCs and high GWP HFCs”

A two-day workshop on “The Kigali Amendment and Alternatives to HCFCs and High-GWP HFCs” was held at the Professional College of Tirana on January 9-10, 2025. The training, tailored for technicians at the vocational training institution, was organized with the dedicated support of Ms. Diana Biba, CEO of the Professional College of Tirana, and enriched by the valuable expertise of Prof. Luan Karcanaj, Rector of  Professional College of Tirana, Prof. Marjeta Dhima, Lecturer at  Professional College of Tirana and Ing. Ilir Palushaj, National Consultant for the Montreal Protocol. The event gathered 37 students, all of whom were awarded a “Certificate of Attendance” upon completion. 

The first part of the workshop focused on theoretical knowledge, covering essential topics such as: “the protection of the ozone layer under the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol”; “the Kigali Amendment, and the global phase-down of HFCs”; “HCFC phase-down and climate-friendly alternatives to high-GWP refrigerants”; “Safety standards, risk management, and best practices”; “Standard methods and requirements for leakage controls”, etc.

The second part of the training was dedicated to hands-on exercises, allowing participants to gain practical experience in handling RAC&HP systems. The objective was to enhance their technical skills, improve system performance and efficiency, and ensure the application of best practices in the sector. During the practical sessions, participants were divided into small groups of two to three and worked closely with trainers. Each technician had the opportunity to engage directly in practice exercises under the guidance of an expert. The hands-on training continued into the second day, facilitated by the vocational school’s trainer, ensuring a thorough and immersive learning experience.
